Callery Pear Pyrus callyerana The Callery Pear is a native tree in Korea and China. Tree workers introduced it into the United States in 1908. Today, a number of varieties of this species are planted in this country. This species is particularly useful because of its resistance to fire blight disease. Also, it is highly resistant to heat, drought and compacted soil. People use the Callery Pear mainly for its fruit. As with most other pear trees it is not ordinarily thought of as an ornamental tree. |
