St. Charles Points

Also called Dovetail points

Usually very well-made point with excurvate blade

Biconvex in cross-section

Blade edges often beveled or serrated resulting from resharpening

Base flared with concave basal edge

Size of base varies from small to large in proportion to overall point size; sometimes basal edge notched slightly

Edges of base and notches heavily ground

Often carefully made of high-quality flint

Size: 2 to 5½ inches long

Early Archaic: ca. 8000-6000 BC
