What is OH! Kids, anyway?
OH! Kids is an area of the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) website intended for kids 11 years of age and younger. There are four sections of OH! Kids:
  • WebTots (under 6 and their parents)
  • WebKids (ages 6-9)
  • WebTweens (ages 9-11)
  • Homework Help (all ages)
What is OPLIN?

OPLIN is a state agency created to make sure that everyone in Ohio has access to the Internet through their local public libraries. Since 1996, OPLIN has provided libraries across Ohio with a high-speed connection to the Internet. In addition, it has created a website with links to outstanding information resources all over the World Wide Web.

OPLIN also allocates money so that public libraries have access to a collection of special websites called subscription databases. These databases have information that you cannot find anywhere else on the Web. Anyone with an Ohio public library card can use these special websites.

What makes a good website?
There are lots of great sites on the Web. At OH! Kids, we try to find "kid-friendly" sites that have good information presented in an interesting way. When we look at a site, these are some of the questions we ask:
  • Whose website is it? Have they studied the subject they're writing about?
  • How current is the information?
  • Is the site updated on a regular basis?
  • Is it user-friendly?
  • Who is this site for? What is the reading level?
  • Is it kid-safe?
